Why I've Never Put a Baby in a Bucket
I don't follow trends. My style is simple, timeless and minimalist and apart from the fact that I have no desire to put your tiny, delicate newborn in a bucket, I can guarantee that when your baby grows up they will not appreciate those kinds of photos. "Mum, what were you thinking?" springs to mind.
Creating classic, timeless newborn and baby portraits is really important to my ethos. Your beautiful baby lying naturally in a soft white shawl or a simple white vest will look just as beautiful in 20, 30 or 40 years time as it does today. That is what I am trying to create. Not a photo that dates. A portrait that lasts.
What You Will Find in My Studio
You won't find baskets and buckets in my studio. In fact you won't find much at all.
There is a very squishy sofa for you to relax on during your baby's session. A small selection of soft white shawls and blankets. I do use a seagrass baby changing basket which fits with my minimalist style and more importantly is designed for a baby. But that is where my props stop.
No giant teddies. No novelty headbands. No elaborate setups that take longer to arrange than your baby has patience for. Just your baby, beautifully lit, in a calm and unhurried space.
My Approach is Simple
For you and your baby, the experience is straightforward. There is no waiting around while I try to mould your newborn into a position you would never put them in naturally. There is no pressure. There is no rush.
I work at your baby's pace. If they need a feed, we stop. If they need a cuddle, we stop. The session takes as long as it takes and the results are portraits that look exactly like your baby looked, not a version of them arranged into something else entirely.
Every Photo Is About the Baby
If you look through my website and galleries you will see that the most important thing in every single photo is the baby. Or the mum. Or the dad. Or a sibling discovering this tiny new addition to their family. The connection between them. The love that is already so visible in those very first days.
There are no props competing for attention. There is nothing in the frame that shouldn't be there.
A Newborn Photographer for Every Family
There is a newborn photographer out there for every family and if you love the more styled, propped look then there are many wonderful photographers to choose from. But if you want to remember exactly what your little one looked like, how they held their hands, how they curled their toes, how they were in themselves, then a minimal, timeless approach might be exactly what you are looking for.
My sessions cover your baby's entire first year. From those very first days as a newborn, through to sitter sessions as their personality emerges, all the way to a 1st birthday photoshoot celebrating 365 days of keeping a tiny human alive and thriving.
