Those first days with your baby are unlike any other. At my quiet studio just outside Dundee, I photograph newborns gently and simply, creating calm, timeless portraits while you sit back and breathe it all in. Little siblings are always welcome too — included in a way that feels natural and relaxed.

The studio is a welcoming white space in Monifieth, designed for new parents who want something simple, unhurried and beautifully unposed.

Ally, newborn photographer at Mabel & Møøse studio in Dundee

I’m Ally, the photographer behind Mabel & Møøse. I’m a newborn photographer based in Monifieth, just outside Dundee, creating calm, natural portraits for babies and their families.

Newborn photography is my speciality. I work gently and patiently, allowing each baby to settle in their own time.

Those early days can feel overwhelming for new parents, so the studio is a quiet, welcoming space where you can simply sit down, breathe and enjoy watching your baby be beautifully photographed.

My purpose-built studio sits beside my home in Monifieth, a short drive from Dundee and Broughty Ferry. Families visit from across Angus and throughout Scotland for relaxed, baby-led newborn sessions that feel simple and unhurried.

I’m also a mum to four grown-up children and a very proud gran to five wonderful grandchildren. I understand just how quickly these early days pass, which is why capturing them thoughtfully matters so much.

Newborns are beautifully curled and wonderfully sleepy in those first days. Newborn photos are ideally taken within the first 10–14 days, when your baby still settles naturally into those tiny, tucked-up poses.

If your baby is a little older, please don’t worry. I regularly photograph older newborns too, simply adapting the session so it feels calm and natural for your baby at their stage.

At this time they change so quickly, and it only takes a moment to realise how much they’ve already grown.

Your Newborn

It’s so easy to forget their tiny details. The miniature ears tucked against their heads, the soft downy hair at the nape of their neck, the curled fingers and tiny toes. Those sleepy stretches that disappear all too quickly.

What Happens at a Newborn Photoshoot?

On the day of your newborn session there is plenty of time to settle in, feed or change your baby whenever needed. I never book another family straight after you, so everything feels calm and unhurried. A relaxed environment is best for your baby — and for you as new parents.

You’ll stay close throughout the photoshoot, and everything moves at your baby’s pace, with plenty of time for feeds and cuddles whenever needed.

A newborn session is more than photographs. It’s a quiet moment to pause and take in just how tiny your baby really is. I create beautiful, timeless portraits for your home so you’ll always remember these early days exactly as they felt.

Kind Words from Parents

We are so happy with the pictures that Ally has captured of our baby girl and really enjoyed the whole experience of the new born photo shoot from start to finish. Our baby was just 5 days old during and it was such a chilled out experience. We felt at ease throughout - the pictures are amazing and we'll cherish them forever.

Newborn Photography FAQs

Some questions you might ask about newborn photographs

Why is newborn photography important?

The first few weeks of your baby’s life will go by in a blink. Your newborn will change more quickly in those first few days and weeks than they will at any other stage.

There’s no 2nd chance to capture those precious memories. Newborn photographs will be a priceless reminder of your milk-drunk sleepy babe or your inquisitive little bundle who wants to see their new world. Magical moments that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

At what age should newborn photos be taken?

2-14 days after your baby is born, is a great opportunity to capture those very curled-up newborn photos. In the first two weeks, your baby will be mostly sleeping and only waking for feeds. This is just a rough guide so please don’t worry if you’re baby is older when you come to Mabel & Møøse. Plenty of the newborn photos that you see on my website are of babes that are older than 2-weeks. I’d suggest you book in for your baby’s session during that 2-week window after your due day. We can always change the date to suit.

Why hire a professional newborn photographer?

When you hire me as your professional newborn photographer you’re not just commissioning me to create beautiful photographs of your beautiful baby. You are trusting me to make the whole experience magical. I have over 25 years of experience as a professional photographer and have photographed hundreds of babies.

If you hire the right professional it’s guaranteed that you’ll get a wide selection of high-quality, incredible portraits to choose from. My style is very consistent and I know how to handle a newborn calmly and safely. I also know how expertly to use light to bring out the unique little details of your baby. For mums that are a bit self-conscious after giving birth, I know all the most flattering angles. Dads also want to look their best too, so I use light and shade to flatter them.
