6 Month Old Baby Photoshoot in Dundee
6 months is a magical time to have your little one photographed.
I say that with a little caveat. If your baby is just a couple of weeks away from sitting unaided (even just for a few seconds) then I would wait a couple of weeks until they can sit. A baby who is almost sitting can get a little frustrated and won't want to lie down for too long.
This gorgeous baby girl was so proud of herself and loved sitting up and playing. She was equally happy rolling around and lying having cuddles with her mummy or being held by her daddy. One thing she wasn't so fussed about doing was sleeping — she was having too much fun. At this stage I am only looking to get a couple of photos of her asleep, and when she did sleep she looked so much more like a baby than when she was sitting up smiling at her mummy.
Baby photography at 6 months is still in my simple Scandi style. Just a few traditional wooden toys, a fluffy bunny and lots of cuddles from both parents. I have plenty of adorable little outfits for you to choose from. They are all simple and timeless but if your baby is not happy to be changed then the session will look just as beautiful if they wear a white baby vest from start to finish.
This sitter stage gives a great variety of photos and your little one can look like the tiny baby they were a few months ago and also the little toddler that they are about to become. I think that's why I love this stage so much. One minute baby is cuddled in fast asleep and the next they are throwing bricks and giggling or doing that pouty baby frown that looks so sweet when you're only 6 months old.
And of course there is the added advantage that they won't yet be crawling and are more than likely to stay put long enough for me to get some beautiful portraits.
When to book
You should book as soon as you decide you'd like this milestone session. If your baby isn't sitting in time for their booking then I am happy to reschedule for a few weeks later.
What to expect on the day
Sessions usually take around 90 minutes but I book out a longer studio slot for you so that nothing is rushed. If you arrive and your baby needs to finish their nap there is plenty of time for that.
What should baby wear?
A plain white vest is all your baby needs. Everything else is provided for your baby and for little siblings too.
What should parents wear?
I have a lovely selection of flattering white outfits in all sizes for mums to wear. Dads just need a white shirt.
