Newborn Photoshoot at 4 Days Old | Mabel & Møøse Dundee

One of the youngest babies I have photographed was just 4 days old, although I have photographed newborns who were even younger.

It is never too early to get those first photos. One of the questions I get asked the most is when is the best time for newborn photos. There's honestly no right answer for this. I think it's more about what's right for you rather than your baby. Your little one will look just as beautiful and new whether they are a day old or 6 weeks old, and I am very experienced with all ages of babies so the results will always be lovely.

It's what suits you as a new mum, and there's really no way to tell how you are going to feel after giving birth until it's happened. I have had 4 babies and I felt differently after each one. Sometimes new mums are brimming with adrenaline and can conquer the world on day 2, and others feel a lot more fragile. All you have to do at my Mabel & Møøse studio is watch while I photograph your baby and occasionally cradle your little one while I create some beautifully flattering photos of you as a new mum. And if after giving birth you really feel you would like to leave it for a day or two, or even a few weeks, it is absolutely fine — I will find another day that works for you.

This little one arrived 6 days early and his mum was more than happy to bring him to the studio. She didn't need to bring a thing. She chose one of my flattering white dresses to wear and I provided everything for the baby. I even managed to get a photo of him with his eyes open just before I handed him back to mum halfway through for a feed. I work in a very natural way — there is no pressure for you or your baby to do anything other than relax.

Coming along to a photoshoot is one of the loveliest ways to celebrate the birth of your baby with your partner. The morning is all about the 3 of you as a new little family. A visit to Mabel & Møøse is very often a baby's first trip out of the house — a morning when you don't need to worry about another round of visitors stopping by. This is just time for the 3 of you.

Most mums choose to book after their 20 week scan — that way the date is there waiting for you whenever your baby decides to arrive.

If you are pregnant just now and reading this, firstly, huge congratulations and secondly I would absolutely love to photograph your little one when they arrive.
