I Promise Your Baby Doesn’t Need to Do Anything at Their Newborn Photoshoot

If you’re pregnant and thinking about booking a newborn photoshoot, one thing I want you to know is this: your baby doesn’t need to do anything at all.

I know it’s easy to worry. You might be thinking, “What if my baby won’t settle? What if they cry the whole time? What if they just… won’t settle?” These are completely normal thoughts, especially for first-time parents. But in my studio, there’s no “settling” required from your baby.

I don’t call it natural newborn photography for nothing. Every single baby I photograph has their own ways of settling—or not settling—and my job is to create a beautiful gallery for every single one. I have quite a bit of experience calming babies and knowing just how to lay them down to get the best photographs. I love capturing a simple portrait of a baby sleeping soundly, or even with their eyes open. But if your little one stretches, wriggles a tiny leg, or peeks out an arm from their blanket after I’ve just tucked them in, that’s wonderful. These little moments are what make their photos unique — and in a few weeks, you’ll be thinking, “that’s exactly how they like to be.”

Can I also add that your baby won’t cry the whole time? I never let a baby cry at a photoshoot. Two whimpers, a petted lip, and I pause immediately to see what your baby needs. Whether it’s a little cuddle, a feed, or just some gentle reassurance, I make sure every baby is calm, comfortable, and happy throughout their session.

Every baby is different, and that’s exactly how it should be. My sessions are entirely baby-led, and I never get flustered or stressed. Your baby is my little boss, and I will do everything I can to keep them calm, comfortable, and safe.

This relaxed approach also makes it easier for you. You can enjoy the session without pressure, knowing that everything will flow naturally at your baby’s pace. The focus is on capturing the calm, fleeting moments that become treasured memories — gentle, small, and completely perfect.
