When I saw this in print in The Courier, I had a tear in my eye. It must be the onions! The year and a bit have been so hard for everyone. Some families have suffered more than others. It's been hard for new parents and couples who have been pregnant. They missed out on so many of the things that have always been taken for granted.

Dads missed out on seeing their baby in the first scan. They couldn't go to anti-natal appointments, even a trip to a baby shop to buy a pram was out of the question.

I consider myself very lucky to have weathered this storm and have come out the other side. Now I help families get portraits of their new babies. Photos that they never thought were possible.

It's a massive honour to be able to spend time with new mums and dads. I get to hold the most precious thing in their lives, often even before grandparents have that chance.

My day consists of chatting to lovely couples, cuddling newborns, playing with older babies, buying adorable baby clothes AND, creating treasured photographs. Plus I get to spend my day in my happy place, my beautiful studio. Dream job!

It was exciting being on the other side of the camera for a change. Thank goodness the hairdresser could fit me in the week before my photo shoot. Thank-you Bliss!

Maria is a wonderful young journalist who works for DC Thomson. I love what she’s written about Mabel & Møøse and about the wonderful families who commission me to record their newborn babies.

This is going to sound like an Oscars acceptance speech, but I make no apology. I want to thank a few people who have helped me and had faith in me. My kids, my husband, my sister and a few very special friends. None of this would have been possible without my amazing clients.
