A Newborn Photoshoot in Dundee: 22 Days New

Twenty two days old and already so completely themselves.

This little one came to the studio from Invergowrie and from the moment they arrived there was that feeling in the room that only a brand new baby brings. That particular quiet, that particular stillness. The newborn bubble is unlike anything else and it was a privilege to be invited into it.

At 22 days old your baby is still so new. Still curled, still soft, still adjusting to the world outside. Sometimes they sleep deeply and sometimes they open their eyes and look at you with an expression that stops you completely. This little one had both and the camera loved every moment of it.

There is nothing added in these photographs. No props, no fuss. Just a baby, beautiful natural light and the softest white wraps. Everything at Mabel & Møøse is kept deliberately simple because a newborn baby needs nothing else to be extraordinary.

The details at this age are everything. The way their fingers curl. The softness of their skin. The tiny features that are changing even as you look at them. These are the things that disappear so quickly and the reason why having photographs taken in those first few weeks matters so much.

There is something about a newborn's expression when they are awake that is completely arresting. Wide eyes taking in a world they have only just arrived in. At 22 days old every look, every fleeting expression, every tiny movement is worth capturing. They will never be quite this new again.

The newborn stage is so fleeting. Blink and they have changed. Those first three weeks in particular have a quality to them that is completely unique, a softness and a newness that will never come again. Having photographs from this stage means you will always be able to go back to it.

At Mabel & Møøse sessions are completely baby-led. Nothing is rushed and nothing is forced. If a baby needs time to feed or settle we simply wait. The best photographs come when a baby is completely comfortable and at peace and that cannot be hurried.

These images will sit in this family's home for years. On walls, in frames, in a beautiful keepsake box. One day this baby will look at them and see how loved they were from the very first days. That is what newborn photography is really for.
