How Should I Dress My Baby For A Newborn Photoshoot…….

When you are planning visit to Mabel & Møøse, to have your newborn or older baby photographed, you don’t need to worry about what to dress your baby in. A totally plain white baby vest is perfect. Sometimes a baby vest is called a onesie, a baby grow or a bodysuit. They all refer to the same thing. An all-in-one, usually with poppers between the baby’s legs. Choose any style that you like, so long as it is 100% plain. No logo, no pattern, and it must be white. This is so as a I can create my signature Scandi-style look. You can choose short sleeves, long sleeves or a strappy onesie. It can be a regular, over the head one, or a kimono style. If this is your first baby then the chances are that your onesie will be new. That’s ideal. If it’s your 2nd or 3rd child then the chances are it’s a hand-me-down and therefore probably not just as white and crip and new as it once was. Please buy a fresh new one for your baby’s photo session. In terms of fit, it’s better to be very slightly too big for your baby, rather than too tight.

It’s important to bring your baby to the studio wearing their white bodysuit. Don’t have it packed in your baby bag. Please don’t worry that it might dirty on the journey to the studio. These things happen and I am prepared for it. I would rather edit out a tiny milk stain than have to disturb your baby by changing them into a baby vest when they arrive. It would also be really fabulous if you could put your baby in a Kit & Kin nappy. I have a supply of this nappy brand in the studio, but it’s so useful if your baby arrives wearing the correct nappy. Again, that means that I won’t need to disturb your baby. And if your baby does what it’s supposed to do in their nappy, before you reach the studio, then don’t worry about that. Sometimes there’s no option but to change a baby before the session.

Kit & Kin start at size 1 and go right up to size 6. They are super soft and are perfect for newborn photography. They are available online and also at Boots, Amazon and a few of the larger supermarkets.

All babies look adorable in a plain white baby vest. It’s so fresh and clean and innocent. There’s nothing to distract from your beautiful baby. How many times in those first few days, weeks and months will you look at your baby and all they will have on is a onesie. This is how you are used to seeing your baby and it’s a timeless look. I can create a full gallery with your baby wearing this very simple outfit.

Should I dress my baby differently if they are older? Even if your baby is older, you should still dress them in a plain white body suit. A thicker material is better especially for an older baby who is crawling and moving around. It doesn’t matter what age you baby is, please still dress them in an all white (and totally plain) baby vest.

You can buy baby vests almost anywhere but I love the ones from John Lewis, M&S, and Baby Mori. H&M, Next and supermarkets also stock them.

If your baby is settled and happy then I will also use a beautiful, hand knitted baby shawl, to create even more variety in your gallery.
