Sitting Babies to 18 Months
There’s so many baby milestones in your child’s first 18 months.
Those moments will pass and change before you can blink. One day they are a babe in arms, and the next they are toddling about.
(they are all too precious to forget)
Older Baby Photoshoot FAQs
Some questions you might ask about older baby photographs
What the best age to photograph babies?
7 - 10 months is a wonderful to time to photograph your baby. At this age they are funny, thoughtful, inquisitive little people and everything they do is worth photographing.
It’s too cute when they play with their toes, or give you a toothy grin. They have chubby thighs and sqiudgy baby-rolls on their tummy, which will all disappear once they start running around. You won’t just want me to photograph what your baby looks like, you’ll want pictures that show their little personality.
How can I get my baby to sit still for pictures?
Interesting toys and a calm environment will encourage the most active of babies to sit still long enough for a beautiful photograph.
But you don’t have to get your baby to sit still for photos. Half the fun is chasing them around as they suddenly master the art of crawling halfway through their photo session. You need to a bit of a David Attenborough to photograph a baby. Just let them do what they do. Watch and document what they do naturally.
(Did I just liken myself to the great man himself?)
How do you prepare for a baby photoshoot?
You should plan your baby’s pictures for a day when nothing would make them unusually tired or cranky. Best not to book a photoshoot for the day after their vaccinations or the week they start daycare. Your baby’s photo session should be in the morning around 10 am, as experience tells me that this is when young babies are at their happiest. Don’t try to keep them awake immediately before your session. This rarely has the desired effect. Just let them be themselves. If they are sleeping when they arrive at the studio, I just give them time to finish their nap before starting.
Not quite ready to book your newborn portraits but would you like some more information.
