…..Darling 14 Day Old Blair

A mass of thick dark hair and chubby cheeks, 14-day-old baby Blair is completely adorable. I had the incredible pleasure of photographing her brother Rueben when he was just 5 days old. It was a real treat to be invited into this family’s newborn bubble for the 2nd time. Two new bubs in under 2 years. I can completely relate to that, as my children were all very close in age. It’s incredibly hard work but so rewarding to see them grow up so close in age.

Rueben adores his new baby sister, but he wasn’t too keen to be photographed with her. It’s such a huge change when a new baby appears in the family, and I think it's far better to have a couple of photos that include a wee sibling rather than trying to coax them into a full gallery of pictures. Rueben was quite happy sitting watching, and we did manage to get a family photograph. I love the way he always touched his daddy’s ear…or hair…or face. He still needs reassurance, which is so beautiful to see. He’s only 20 months old, so still really a baby himself.

Blair was a sleepy little munchkin, but when she did open her eyes for a few minutes, she knew how to work the camera.

When you have two babies so close together you get lost in a bubble of cuddles and washing and feeding. There’s always someone needing a nappy change, a hug, or wanting to be rocked and held. Your 4th trimester with a 2nd baby is very intense… you are undoubtedly more confident as a mother but no two babies are the same so there are still things to learn. New ways of settling your new little one…how to snuggle both your toddler while cluster feeding a little milk monster and even just leaving the house requires so much preparation. But your instinct takes over and before long you and you do whatever works for you
