Which Style Of Baby Bodysuit To Wear For A Newborn Photoshoot …..
………and how many styles of baby body suits does one small person actually need?
At Mabel & Møøse it’s very simple. You should dress your baby in a totally plain white baby bodysuit.
It’s a good idea to buy a new little bodysuit, so it’s totally crisp and white. Choose one without any logos or patterns.
What Style Of Baby Bodysuit Is Best For A Photoshoot.
There are so many styles of bodysuits available for newborns. Who would have thought that this tiny essential garments could have so many design variations.
Let’s look at your options. Sleeves or sleeveless? The sleeveless vest style, can be super cute. This will let you see more of your baby’s tiny body and they will look adorable with their little (sometimes fuzzy) shoulders on display. Like a mini boxer. Or what’s totally sweet for a baby girl are shoestring straps which often come with a tiny lace edging and a straighter neckline. They remind me of a weeny ballerina’s outfit.
If you opt for sleeves, they can be long or short. With short sleeves you will see your baby’s tiny wee arms, but if you choose long sleeves, the photograph will have more “white “ lighter feel to it as there’s more white cotton fabric on show.
You can also get baby vests with frilly sleeves, but often they will end up hiding your baby’s face in the photograph so they aren’t recommended.
So many choices for a tiny wee baby’s wardrobe.
Collar or no collar? And then do you want a Peter-pan collar or a lace collar or a polo? A Peter-pan collar has rounded softer corners and can often have a scalloped edge. A polo-collared body suit is just like the collar on an adult polo top with pointed corners.
My own personal favourite is no collar, as it’s so pure and simple. But I also love a Peter-pan collar, which looks adorable on baby girls or boys.
Bodysuit all have poppers between the legs to fasten your baby in snuggly. Most bodysuits are crewneck (sometimes called shoulder snap) and can be put on over your baby’s head or (because the neckline is wide and stretchy) can be pulled down over their little shoulders and legs to take the vest off. I think my 1st baby was about 3 months old, before I realised this was a thing! If only I’d known
You can also buy kimono style (sometimes described as wraparound bodysuits or side-snap bodysuits) these have a real designer feel to them. You may need a degree to work out how to do them up, as there’s so many poppers to be matched, but once you have the hang of it they are a dream and you don’t need to put them over your baby’s head. You can all buy cute ones with ties instead of poppers….
Now when I say plain fabric, I actually love the pretty vests with a woven pattern. They are still 100% white but have a texture to them.
I think I have exhausted all the options. Who would have guessed that a baby baby body would have more permutations than a Rubik’s Cube! I’m thinking there’s 144 different permutations of white baby vest? Can that be right? 3 styles of body, 4 sleeve types and 6 types of neckline, plain or textured fabric… anyway there’s lots to choose from to personalise your style without making your newborn into a fashionista.
Mostly for everyday wear a short sleeved over the head or kimono-style is best. It can be worn under your baby’s clothes to keep them snug and secure. If you’re in a warm climate then sleeveless is best. But for photoshoots and for wearing in hot weather where their bodysuit is all they need on, then you can choose something a wee bit more stylish.
I have so many styles and sizes of white baby vests in the studio. So once I have taken a few initial photos of your baby then you have the option to dress them in a different style. It’s important to bring your little one dressed in their white bodysuit as it means that I don’t have to disturb them before I start their photoshoot.
Should I Buy A New Baby Vest For My Baby’s Photo Session
Yes the baby vest should be brand new or barely used. They very quickly become misshapen, even with careful washing. Bright, crisp white is best. So if it’s a 2nd baby and you are using your 1st little one’s onesies, then invest in a new one for their newborn session.
Does Quality And Fabric Of A Baby Bodysuit Matter For A Baby Photoshoot
Usually the more expensive the baby bodysuit, the better the quality. This is important for a photoshoot. The fabric will be slightly thicker and will be more snug around your baby, especially around your little ones legs, which means you can see their adorable little thighs without seeing too much of their nappy.
And that’s basically all you need to dress your baby when you come for a Mabel & Møøse newborn or baby photoshoot. So whether you baby is coming for their newborn photos, their just-sitting-up session, or their 1st Birthday photoshoot, all they need to wear is a plain white bodysuit and a white nappy. Mabel & Møøse provides this unique ONEderful 1st Birthday outfit, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. And this adorable photograph is why Mabel & Møøse don’t offer a 1st Birthday cake smash.
